We All Have Our Own Texture

According to Jeanette Walls, speaker and Author of “The Glass Castle”, we all have our ‘textures and scares, or stories. Jeannette Walls has had one heck of a life, and has many stories to tell. It’s the stories and lessons that made her who she is that she shared with her audience tonight. It is fascinating to think that a woman who was living in poverty the majority of her life would later be working as a columnist for MSNBC in New York and later a bestselling author. Something that really grabbed my interest during Jeannette’s speech was what a piece of advice her mother gave her. This lesson simply was to always tell the truth. I am big on being truthful and not hiding things from others. In my opinion, that is a great piece of advice to give someone.

According to Jeanette Walls, “Everything in life is a blessing and a curse. It is our decision to choose which one we want to focus on.” When I thought about it, she is correct in my opinion. Life is what you make of it. You can choose to focus on the negative all of your life, but where will that get you? You are in control of your own destiny and future. “It is when we fall that shows what we are really made of”. Jeannette truly is a well-rounded person. I really like this quote because it has that ‘never give up’ attitude that so many of us strive for. And like Jeannette Walls also says, “Scars make us who we are”.
