Memoirs in the Works

Mrs. Evans started the class with an explanation of where our memoir first drafts SHOULD have been placed. So a few of us (myself included) scrambled to post their assignments in the proper place. We proceeded to discuss what the English 103 website is actually for, posting of journals. We also went in to greater detail of what a journal is. A journal is a 250-word mini writing assignment that can be written about one of the recommended reading assignments or an on campus event. 10 of them should be completed throughout the semester. And be warned, if no one posts about the Envision textbook, then after each chapter we will have a quiz to prove that everyone has been reading, so everyone better be hitting the books!

Mrs. Evans transitioned to the focus of that day’s class with a reading of her own memoir. After listening to the story of our professor sniffing her hands as a child, we broke up into small groups and read our stories aloud to each other. After every one read, each group member gave feedback to each other. The feedback included a positive, a negative, and something we were confused about or questioned in the paper. Then one person in the group composed an email to Mrs. Evans that contained all the comments we made to each other. Our group was a little skimpy on the details. Perhaps we’ll do a little better this coming class!
