"Never Forgotten"

Ten years ago today was the day that will never be forgotten. It was the day where nearly three thousand people lost their lives as the Twin Towers came crashing down to what is now known as Ground Zero. I had the opportunity to attend “An Evening of Remembrance,” in Pruis Hall to look back at the tragedy of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The Mayor of Muncie started the ceremony off with a big thank you for our armed forces, police and firemen, and others who risk their lives to try to keep everyone out of danger’s way. Ball State’s ROTC presented the American Flag, which was then followed by a tear jerking performance of “Prayer of the Children,” sung by the Ball State Chamber Choir. The ceremony was then concluded with an unbelievable speech from a September 11 survivor, Michelle Rosado. In any type of emergency, you are always told to take the steps, not the elevator. In her case, not following those rules was a matter of life or death. If she had waited in the line of frantic people going down the steps after the first plane hit, she still would have been in the building when the second plane hit. With that being said she was forced into an elevator and lived to tell her story. She misses her friends, and even suffered from a little survivor guilt, but she learned what she was truly meant to do with her life. It was to help others, the way she had been helped. Her message was not only about this terrible day she encountered, it was about cherishing life because you never know what is going to happen next.
