General's Rhetoric

Duty, Honor, Country: these words were the highlights and main purpose for General MacArthurs speech. May of 1962 in New York the general was awarded the Sylvanus Thayer Award for his Years of service. He speaks of the importance of duty, honor, and country and why they are important for the success of this country. He uses a variety of metaphors and personifies his words in a way that makes them seem almost life like. He states, "These hallowed words reletively dicatate what you ought to be, what you can be, and what you will be."
