Maybe everyone needs to listen to Lady Ga Ga’s “Born This Way” and just accept the way they are!! #youarebeautiful

“Motives” is the key word in this topic of research (referring to research on the ideal body image). It is not a matter of which gender cares more or less about what the look like, it is a matter of reasoning on why they see themselves the way they do. It has been found in studies that “boys were more concerned than girls about physical functioning such as strength and performance, while girls focused on attractiveness and self-consciousness.” In reality, it is performance versus appearance no matter which gender. Though in magazines and advertising commercials, you tend to see a greater focus on women… very thin women or women who have dropped a significant amount of weight; there are also women who have to change their weight and muscle mass to perform a certain way (such as athletics). It goes for men as well.  Though the typical image for men is strong and athletic, it is understood that not all men have this athletic gene, yet they still have a drive to change their appearance.
