Circus in Winter

Circus in Winter is about struggles. Many of the characters were victims of struggle through love, work, and even both.  Similar genres of dance have been inspired by stories similar to this, such as romantic ballets. These ballets showed the struggles of lovers due to social standings, or falling for a lover who loves someone else. Believe it or not this performance had very little dance for being such a strong topic, but those bits and pieces of dance had a powerful impact. The show began with a performance to a song called ‘It’s amazing.’ All of the characters of the show participated  in this opening routine. At first, they only stomped to the beat of the song, which was powerful in itself. Circus in Winter was a mixture of both men and women, the stomping showed that they worked extremely hard at what they do. It also showed that even though they worked under horrible circumstances, the outcome at the time, or one  day, would be amazing and worth it. When the performers formed a rotating circle , each character had the chance to show off  their strength whether it be acrobatics, singing, or various movements. About a quarter of the way through the show was a ballroom  routine that was the point at which the main characters at the time, began to fall in love. A small piece, but it was the changing point of the performance. Everything then was based around their love. Even the smallest of movements can tell the biggest stories. Though this performance had very little dance, it was that, which kept me on the edge of my seat and very interested in the story line. It was about struggle , love, even death,  and the coming together of completely different people to form a family of friends. Overall it was a very inspirational piece of art.
