“Don’t focus on the burqa anymore because its not the problem, Muslim women want to be free and live just lives. #changetheworld!”

Muslim women today suffer from oppression of their rights to be free and live without fear. Many people focus on the hijab or Muslim head covering as the source of their oppression but in reality that is usually a symbol of their faith in Islam. What many Muslim women want are personal freedoms such as to be in public by themselves, have a paying public job, the equal rights as men, have their testimony be worth just as much as a mans in court.  These are just a few of the main ones they are fighting for only in public but there are also struggles in their own home. Some Muslim women are to endure beatings because they didn’t produce a son or for not cooking dinner a specific way. Also the right to divorce with fair rights after, for example the husband is not required to pay child support or any compensation to the wife after divorce. These have been growing issues for longer than the war in the Middle East and these women deserve a free and just life without the fear of being beaten or killed for living in freedom. The focus isn’t on the hijab because once these Muslim women have their freedoms they will then have the choice if they want to wear and what it means to them as a Muslim woman.
