Presentations

Chapter 9 of Envision focuses on turning research into a presentation. After slaving away on a paper, digging deep for important facts and spending hours working to word the perfectly conducted research correctly; it can be so easy to ruin everything in a matter of a minute when trying to present to a group of people. A good presentation is more than just reading what you have on paper; it takes a solid process of planning, scripting, revision and rehearsal to get it right. Organization is very important when preparing a speech because the order in which you state facts help to lead up to the main argument. Never be afraid to take when you have in your paper and reorganize it to make the strongest point verbally. In Envision, it says that it is common for us to talk for longer than we plan, though from experience I disagree with this fact. I think that too often when you begin a speech, because of nerves you talk a little faster than you do on a regular basis, causing the speech time to be shorter than planned. Also, the way we write and the way we speak are not always one in the same. Being able to translate your written words into something comprehendible to others listening is also very important when connecting with your audience.
