Better Than a Book

As everyone knows, this past summer, the entire incoming freshman had to read the book “The Glass Castle” by Jeanette Walls. As apart of reading the book, the author came to speak at Emen’s auditorium about other stories that were not put into the book. Walls came September 21st, Wednesday at 7:30 where the auditorium was almost completely sold out. I am certainly positive that at least three-fourths of the crowd was there only because their teacher was offering them extra credit to write a paper over her. After she was done speaking I bet people were thinking that even if extra credit was not involved with coming, they would have wished they would have came. After hearing her speak, anyone could have seen why it was almost sold out because of her lively way of talking and intriguing life stories.
Going to hear her speak, I thought she was going to be repetitive and review over everything in the book we already read. After the first ten minutes of her lecture, everyone realized she was hysterically funny and made further jokes on parts of the book. She shared with us other personal stories from anonymous readers that were touched by her book and sent her emails. She also told us the story of how quickly the book became very popular and how people in her family were reading it. Not everyone was proud of her for writing the book, but over time they began to accept it because she told of nothing but the truth in the novel.
Leaving this, I have learned so many things from the book that I thought I already knew. I thought I would see a broken woman coming to talk to us about her book and how she might have regretted it.
