Reflex

Over the weekend on Friday I saw an improv comedy group called Reflex at the University Theater. Reflex is a group of Ball State University students who are usually theater or theater teaching majors and they work together to create a comical show. I originally went to support one of my friends who is in Reflex but it was actually really good. Also being able to see the show first hand made me realize how difficult it would be to apart of this improv group. One of the skits they put on was where one of the members went out of the theater and then other two members of the group took suggestions from the crowd on what they should act out, silently. When the member came back into the theater he watched his fellow  members and was able to figure out what they were supposed to be portraying. This takes a lot of detective and creative mind set to understand and at the same time make the show funny and enjoyable. Another act they did was a rap and the members had to make the raps rhyme and intertwine with each others. So the Reflex members stood in a line at the front of the stage and one began to rap and then the next person in line had to continue of finish the rap in the same funny context the person before them did. This whole comedic show made me realize how difficult it would be to be involved in a group like this because the Reflex members do not get to rehearse their acts. This is because the setting, characters, or context is given to them by the audience minutes or seconds before they are supposed to act out there roles. Being apart of Reflex or an improv comedy group would take a lot of mental ability and the ability to be creative, relative, and funny.
